South Downs Sunday

Sunday dawned cold and sharp, the sun straining through the early morning Ditchling mist. We took a walk around the village, just as the sun broke through, illuminating walls of flint and brick. Continue reading “South Downs Sunday”

Main Street

Here’s a lovely thing, a Jonny Hannah video from Yorkshire Sculpture Park:

Visitors are invited to take a stroll down Main Street in Hannah’s vintage-inspired homage to the independent trader, until 28 February 2016. Transforming YSP Centre, the exhibition features three pop-up shops made entirely from the artist’s 2D and 3D artworks, all of which are available to buy. Navigate Main Street using Hannah’s traditional hand-painted signs suspended above the YSP Centre concourse; natter with the owner of the Record Store; and nip to The Hand and Heart junk shop to pick up anything your heart desires!

Further details at Yorkshire Sculpture Park and see more of Jonny’s work at The Rowley Gallery.

An Illustrator’s Miscellany

001

Jonny Hannah‘s new book, Greetings From Darktown, has finally arrived, and it’s worth the wait. It’s an adventure book for the eyes, a cornucopia of delights, a cryptic catalogue of signs and wonders, and best of all there’s this feast of visual treats, a double page spread of Jonny’s Jackets again.

John Taylor’s Month Away

I’ve been collecting wee clips of the sea on my phone over the last few years. I wasn’t sure why, but making a wee film with them all together, with King Creosote’s song seems to be just right. Locations include…Royal Victoria Country Park, Southampton, the train to and from Plymouth, the Tay Bridge, a beach in France, the Isle of Wight ferry, and of course the view from the mighty Forth Rail Bridge.

New River, Blue River

001

Myddleton House was named after Hugh Myddleton who built the New River, an aqueduct carrying fresh water into London. Over the years its course has changed but originally in 1613 it flowed through here, beneath these iron railings marking an earlier bridge. Continue reading “New River, Blue River”
