Down The Guggenheim
Christopher Corr sent these photos from New York for Dominic. He was reminded of Dom’s forthcoming descent of Battersea Power Station. Continue reading “Down The Guggenheim”
Fisher Center
Dear Chris….I saw some great places yesterday along the Hudson River: Rhinebeck, Tivoli, Germantown, Hudson the ex-whaling town. I took a look at Bard College and the Frank Gehry Performing Arts Space. Very impressive and shiny on a sunny day. Today off to Lenox, Massachusetts for a big book sale. Wishing you a great day, Chris. Continue reading “Fisher Center”
Blue Sky
Dominic just sent me this photo. It’s the view from the back door of The Rowley Gallery workshop, looking across the yard and over the District & Circle line and out to the west. It was taken on the Saturday before last, August 18, which was the hottest day of the year. Such a blue sky and intense shadows, more like California than Kensington.
Messing About On The River (1)
This is Kai on the Thames below Tower Bridge, sailing up river, back to where she started at Pimlico Pier and Westminster Boating Base.
Sunday mornings, blue sky, gentle breeze, tacking and gybing backwards and forwards, avoiding tourist boats, fighting the tide, trying not to be dunked by the better sailors. Usually the kids playing pirates are fearless and just love any opportunity to capsize. Occasionally being allowed down river as we were last month, memorably to sail under Tower Bridge and the Olympic Rings.
Cwm Idwal
This is another from the Guardian’s Eyewitness series, and it’s also another in a developing Frames of Reference series. This is Cwm Idwal, a valley in Snowdonia, and a word which seems to keep recurring, either as cwm or combe or comb. See earlier posts Down & Round & Up & Over and Wind Comb and Combe Again. This time it’s a photograph which won the National Parks Landscape Photograph Competition by Michal Tekel and it’s what you might call sublime.
Jelly In Nepal
Jelly Green just came back from four weeks in Nepal where, as well as trekking and paragliding and early morning yoga, she also did some local cow research, making drawings and taking photographs. Continue reading “Jelly In Nepal”

Radcot & Kelmscot
I’d been curious about the Swan Hotel at Radcot for years, ever since we framed this memorable painting. In fact it doesn’t look much like its portrait at all, but it’s a good place to start from and a welcome spot for a riverside drink upon the return. This walk was inspired by a chance meeting two years ago at Jazmin Velasco’s house with Ron Emmons, author of Walks Along The Thames Path. I arrived just as they were about set off on the Richmond walk. In his description of this Radcot & Kelmscot walk, Ron says ‘This is a walk for when you really want to get away from it all’. Though there’s no escaping the jubiquitous Union Jack these days. Continue reading “Radcot & Kelmscot”
