Came across Van Velde’s work recently via an Instagram posting. Can’t believe I’d never come across his work before (and the friendship with Beckett), such beautiful paintings, but shorn of ego. Oddly, in that regard, I kept think of the late Brice Marden’s b&w ink drawings.
Film is very moving in regards to the thoughts and sentiments expressed (I’ve read some background on Van Velde’s difficult, poverty-stricken circumstances), but would have liked more examples of his work.
