Monticchiello was just down the road from where we were staying, twenty minutes by car or two and a half hours if we’d walked. The village is home to the Teatro Povero di Monticchiello and famous for its annual theatre festival of plays written, produced and acted by the local inhabitants.
During July and August there are open air evening performances. When we visited there was an open air exhibition of mesh sculptures by Daniela Capaccioli. Meshes and grills wherever we looked.
